Appropriately Licensed[edit]
You participated at the earlier discussion on licence choice for Featured Pictures. A number of users felt that such restrictions should be made at policy level. Please comment at Commons:Requests for comment/AppropriatelyLicensed. This is a proposal to amend this licence policy to disallow future uploads where the sole licence is inappropriate for the media (e.g., GFDL for images). In earlier discussions there were a number of comments that, while reasonable opinions, did not align with Wikimedia's mission for free content. Please read the FAQ before commenting. Thanks -- Colin (talk) 22:56, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
Sorry Quartl; it was a random selection while postponing the existing nomination because it is still in a pending DR. Hope you will not mind it. JKadavoor Jee 03:22, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
- No problem, feel free to nominate the image. I had the impression you had made an accidential mistake because another file was already in that slot. Best wishes, --Quartl (talk) 05:50, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Don't know if you saw that, but File:Graphosoma lineatum qtl1.jpg is featured since June 2012. Tomer T (talk) 12:58, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
- Ah, it seems I missed that one since I didn't get the FP notifier (for whatever reason). Thanks, --Quartl (talk) 14:58, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi Quartl - I assumed it was captive, as the vast majority of the other images from this zoo are of captive animals. I've moved it to Category:Branta canadensis (feral) now, if that is more appropriate. - MPF (talk) 19:16, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- No problem there. Thanks for your efforts in finding the appropriate categories. Best wishes, --Quartl (talk) 10:46, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

File:Golden Water Skink Side.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

File:Dendrobates_azureus_qtl1.jpg[edit]
I am writing on behalf of Cortina Productions, a media company that specializes in making films and interactives for museums and presidential libraries. We are currently working on an exhibition for an aquarium and are interested in licensing:
Blue Poison Frog
Unfortunately, we are unable to work with the image(s) under the specific creative commons license it falls under as we are unable to "share-alike." Still, we would like to use the image(s) so I wanted to contact you for permission to use it in our exhibit with the following terms:
Media: Museum - Educational Territory: One Location Duration: 10 Years
Here is a link to the content I am referring to: Blue Poison Frog: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dendrobates_azureus_qtl1.jpg You can contact me at dianalizardi@cortinaproductions.com. I am looking forward to hearing from you to discuss the licensing further.

Urnenmodell[edit]
Vielen Dank--부고 (talk) 15:05, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer[edit]
Please excuse me spamming you, which concerns Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign. My contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. I has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and it is very expensive for me to acquire this equipment. I has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a camera with a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.
Please see the discussion about the Crowd-funding campaign on User talk:The Photographer#Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign and visit the Generosity Crowd-funding Campaign page to consider donating. Even a modest donation will make a difference if many people contribute. Thanks. --The Photographer 13:54, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Copyright status: File:Hauptgeraden.png[edit]
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Hauptgeraden.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Important message for file movers[edit]
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Request for slightly changed graphic.[edit]
Dear Quartl ☺
I'd like to use one of your files within Wikipedia to illustrate what one percent means. To this end, could you please upload a second version of the file, where the "100 %" text tag is removed? I hope it should be fairly easy for you to do ☺ --92.195.242.22 23:52, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Image permission[edit]
Hi Quartl,
I do hope that you are well.
I am currently interning for TRAFFIC, an NGO which works on wildlife trade issues. TRAFFIC is currently developing an identification guide to help enforcement officers determine what wildlife species they see in trade. The guidebook will be available for download and we will also be distributing some printed copies to Southeast Asian enforcement agencies, etc. These will be provided to them at no cost. I came across your lovely image of Cacatua sulphurea (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3ACacatua_sulphurea_citrinocristata_qtl1.jpg). We would very much like to use the image in the guide if we can. Unfortunately, TRAFFIC is not able to use it with its current creative commons license share-alike requirement. Would you be willing to allow us to use the image if we credit it in some other way, for example by using your name? Please let me know if this would be possible and if so, what credit would be acceptable to you.
Thank you very much.
Yi Jin
Follow-up request for image permission[edit]
Dear Quartl,
This is Jin, an intern working for TRAFFIC, an international wildlife trade monitoring network. Previously, I have posted a topic on your talk page asking if it is possible for us to credit you in some other way for your beautiful image of the Cacatua sulphurea in our updated species identification guide. This guide is designed to assist enforcement officers in identifying the illegal wildlife that they may see in trade, so your picture of the Cacatua sulphurea (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3ACacatua_sulphurea_citrinocristata_qtl1.jpg) would be extremely helpful as it shows all the distinguishing features of the species.
I was wondering if you may have missed the notification of my previous message, so I'm writing a follow-up request. It would be greatly appreciated if we can receive a response from you soon.
Looking forward to hearing back from you, stay safe.
Best, Jin
